The Japanese brand Honda has witnessed steady demand for the Elevate mid-size SUV in India. To boost its appeal further, development of the Elevate strong hybrid is underway. As per reports, the debut is expected around the festive season this year.

It is likely to use the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol (Atkinson cycle) engine from the Honda City e:HEV. The setup will include two electric motors paired with a small battery pack, generating 125 bhp and delivering a claimed 27.26 kmpl mileage. Expected pricing could be close to Rs 20 lakh.

Renault Duster Hybrid

Renault India is preparing to introduce the new-generation Duster in the country. Initially, it will arrive with two engine options – a 1.3-litre turbo petrol and a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol. Later in the year, likely during the festive period, a strong hybrid variant will follow.

This upcoming version will feature a 1.8-litre petrol strong hybrid unit supported by two electric motors. The combined output will stand at 163 bhp and 172 Nm, paired with an 8-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission). A 1.4 kWh battery pack will enable an extended EV-only driving range.

Nissan Tekton Hybrid

After the Duster Hybrid launch, Nissan India will bring the Tekton Hybrid equipped with the identical 1.8-litre strong hybrid system. Once introduced, both SUVs will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

The rival models currently produce 116 bhp and use comparatively smaller battery packs. Reports suggest that the 1.8-litre hybrid setup in the Renault and Nissan SUVs will be more advanced and efficient. Localization in India is also planned to maintain competitive pricing.

Jetour T2

JSW MG Motor India aims to introduce Chery’s Jetour T2 hybrid SUV in the Indian market. This plug-in hybrid SUV will feature a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine combined with an electric motor and a substantial 26.7 kWh battery pack. The claimed pure EV range is around 100 km.

The Jetour T2 will stand out as a capable off-roader, expected to come with a smart 4WD system, limited-slip differential, 220 mm ground clearance, and 700 mm water-wading capability. However, its launch has faced delays due to Indian FDI regulations and scrutiny over Chinese investments.

Toyota Fortuner Hybrid

The new-generation Toyota Fortuner is also anticipated to receive a strong hybrid option. Currently available with a 48V mild hybrid system, the SUV could soon gain a 2.0-litre turbo petrol strong hybrid engine producing nearly 300 bhp.

Some reports indicate real-world efficiency figures of around 18 kmpl. Pricing for the strong hybrid variant is likely to exceed Rs 50 lakh.

JSW MG 7-Seater Hybrid

In addition to the Jetour T2, JSW MG Motor is planning a 7-seater SUV powered by a strong hybrid system. It will rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Safari.

This upcoming SUV is expected to use the same 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine combined with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. Though exact launch details are yet to be confirmed, some reports suggest an October debut this year.
